Glass Staircase Railing and Wine Cellar
In this West Palm Beach home the main staircase and the wine cellar under it were designed as one glass piece, and ACG Glass & Metals built both. The railing follows the stair up to the second floor landing, and below it the wine room is enclosed in glass that follows the angle of the stair.
The railing uses 9/16 inch clear laminated impact glass on a side mounted system, with every edge machine polished. A 1 1/2 inch square white oak cap with rounded edges runs over the top of the glass, and the wood cover over the hardware was supplied by others.
The wine cellar is built in 1/2 inch clear monolithic tempered glass set in architectural top and bottom U-channels. The door hangs on commercial hydraulic soft close hinges with a 90 degree hold open and closes with a locking handle, all in matte black so the bottles stay the focus behind the glass.
