Glass Stair and Landing Railing on Standoffs and Base Shoe
This SW 48th St home in Miramar had its old stair railing taken out and replaced with frameless glass from the entry level up to the second floor landing. The goal was a brighter, more open stair that lets the wood treads and the white walls read clearly from the foyer.
Along the stair, the 1/2 in clear tempered glass is fixed to the side of the stringer on standoffs, so the treads stay clear and the panels follow the slope of the stair. At the upper landing the system changes to a base shoe, which holds a continuous run of glass around the opening with a clean line at the floor. A low profile cap rail runs over the glass on both sections, and a wall mounted aluminum handrail was added on the wall side of the stair.
All hardware is brushed nickel and every panel was machine polished on all sides. The scope also covered the demolition of the old railing, the wood patch where it was removed and the wood paint, so the stair was left finished and ready to use.
