Bronze Glass Stair Railing with a White Oak Cap
This waterfront home in Highland Beach has an open stair that climbs through a double height space, and the owners wanted the railing to read as part of the architecture instead of a separate guard. ACG Glass & Metals fabricated and installed 148 linear feet of interior glass railing along the stair runs and landings.
The panels are 9/16″ bronze laminated impact glass, installed on the existing stringer with a combination of top mounted and side mounted fittings, depending on where each run meets the structure. The bronze tint keeps the open treads visible while giving the stair a warm, darker line against the light walls and the oak floors.
A square white oak wood cap runs along the top of the glass and ties the railing to the wood finishes of the house. Every panel was built to field verified measurements, and an extra bronze panel with an SGP interlayer was added later in the project by change order.
