Floor to Ceiling Glass Wine Cellar in a Downtown Penthouse
High above Downtown Miami, this penthouse at The Marquis has a wine cellar that stands in the living area as a glass room of its own, with the city skyline right behind it. The idea was to show the collection as part of the space instead of hiding it behind a wall.
ACG built the enclosure in 1/2 in low iron tempered glass, upgraded from clear during the project so the bottles and the racking read with no green tint. The panels run from floor to ceiling and are held in architectural top and bottom U-channels, which keeps the frame almost invisible and lets the glass meet the ceiling with a clean line.
Access is through a pair of glass doors on commercial hydraulic hinges that close softly on their own and hold open at 90 degrees, so the cellar can stay open while bottles are loaded. All hardware is brushed stainless, and renders and conceptual drawings were prepared before fabrication. The wine racking inside was installed by others.
