Floating Staircase | SW 4th Ave Residence

Floating Staircase Under Construction

ACG Glass & Metals is building the main staircase of this new home in Boca Raton: a floating stair that climbs through a double height space from the ground floor to the upper level. These photos show the structure going in, before the treads and the glass.

The whole stair hangs from a single center spine stringer fabricated in steel. The crew lifted it into place with chain hoists and welded it on site to the structural steel of the house. Once the frame is complete it will be powder coated and finished with 3″ white oak treads, stained to match the flooring.

The railing will be 9/16″ clear laminated impact glass on a standoff system, with a low profile 1″ x 1″ white oak cap rail over the glass. Shop drawings and renders were completed before fabrication, and we will update this project as each phase is finished.
