Floating Staircase | Hamaca Court Residence

Floating Staircase with White Oak and Glass

This Boca Raton home was designed around a double height living room, and the staircase had to feel like part of the architecture, not something added to it. ACG Glass & Metals designed, engineered and installed a floating staircase with white oak treads and glass railings that keep the whole space open from the entry to the second floor.

Each tread cantilevers from a black steel center spine, so from the living room the stair reads as a line of white oak blocks floating in the air. The glass is 9/16″ laminated impact glass with a SentryGlass® interlayer, fixed to the side of the treads with round stainless standoffs, and a white oak cap rail runs over the glass from the first tread to the landing. We delivered signed and sealed engineered shop drawings and 3D renders before fabrication, and the oak was stained to match the color the owners chose.

Upstairs, the same glass wraps the second floor opening on a black base shoe system with machine polished edges, so you see the living room, the slatted feature wall and the chandelier with no posts in the way.
