Staircase and Glass Railing | SW 14th Place Residence

White Oak Waterfall Staircase with a Glass Railing

In this new Boca Raton home the staircase rises through a two story entry and is the first thing you see from the front door, so the owners wanted the stair and its railing to read as a single piece of white oak and glass.

The stair is built on a pine stringer and every step is wrapped in White Oak, with a waterfall tread and riser detail mitered at 45 degrees on the corners so the grain turns down each riser without a visible seam. The layout of the stair and railing was revised with the owners and the builder during construction, and the new design was carried through both runs and the upper landing.

The railing uses 9/16″ clear laminated impact glass with a DuPont SentryGlass interlayer, side mounted on brushed stainless standoffs so the glass sits outside the stringer and the full profile of the treads stays visible. A 1″ x 1″ White Oak cap runs over the glass from the first step to the second floor, matching the treads.
