Glass Railing Replacement | 31st Street Residence

New Glass Railing for a Floating Staircase

This West Palm Beach home already had a floating staircase with cantilevered wood treads, but the original glass railing no longer matched the quality of the stair. The owners asked us to take it out and build a new railing that would let the treads float with nothing in the way.

We removed the existing glass and fabricated all new panels in 9/16″ clear laminated impact glass with a DuPont SentryGlass interlayer. The glass is side mounted on exposed brushed stainless standoffs with 3/4″ spacers, so it sits just off the stringer and the edge of every tread stays in view. A low profile square wood cap runs over the glass for the full length of the stair.

At the top, the railing wraps around the upper landing at 42″ to meet code on the second floor, with metal clamps at each 90 degree corner. Outside, the existing balcony glass received a new cap and new clamps to match.
